The Under One Roof building was donated to the Board of Directors, in 1996, to provide a youth emergency shelter for abused and neglected children who had been removed from their homes. Under One Roof is located at 107 McKinley Street in Eufaula, Oklahoma, at the site of a former nursing home.
After the youth emergency shelter was established, it became clear that it would be advantageous to the community if several key human service nonprofits were housed in the building – the idea being that a one-stop shop would provide those in the community with a single location to access multiple types of human and social services. Additionally, pooling resources and offering affordable rent would provide cost savings to those financially challenged nonprofits housed there. Thus, two years later, The Multi-Tenant Nonprofit concept was implemented and “Under One Roof” evolved as a true community driven project. Individual community groups stepped up, listened to their hearts and completed their chosen areas of our renovation project.
Under One Roof is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors made up of representatives from many of the participating agencies housed in the building, as well as at-large community leaders. Those agencies not represented on the Board are given access to a Tenant Committee to provide input and feedback regarding Under One Roof’s mission, projects, and other relevant issues. Currently, we have a part time Executive Director, and a part time Maintenance Supervisor. We are proud to have partnered with the AARP Foundation who provide a part time Administrative Assistant, Custodian and Maintenance assistant.
A group of people who go out of their way to make each other look good.
